We started from a simple frustration: every AI writing tool sends your work to someone else’s server. Every cloud-based editor knows what you’re working on, when you work, and how you write. For journalists, researchers, political theorists, and novelists working on sensitive material, this is not acceptable.
So we built Mergen Ink differently.
Everything you write stays on your device in a local database that only you can access. When you use AI assistance, your text goes directly from your device to the AI provider you choose. Mergen Ink never sees your content. Your API keys are encrypted on your machine. Nothing passes through our servers.
But privacy-first doesn’t mean AI-free.
Mergen Ink is built around three writing modes. Writing mode gives you a distraction-free canvas. Assist mode brings in Claude, Gemini, or GPT-4 as a quiet collaborator. Challenge mode is different: the AI reads your work and actively argues against it finding weak claims, logical gaps, and contradictions so your arguments emerge stronger.
The application handles the full lifecycle of a book: structured writing with Parts, Chapters, and Sections; research and notes in the Lorebook; cover design; print-ready PDF and EPUB export; and direct publishing integrations coming soon.
